DIMB

DIMB is a casual, single player puzzle game where your goal is to collect enough fruit orbs to proceed to the next level. Starting off harmlessly, the stages steadily get more challenging with locked doors, booby traps and enemy robots all trying to hinder your progress. All art by Chris O'Boyle.

My responsibilities included:
  • Overall concept and design
  • All level and puzzle design
  • All coding (in GameMaker Studio)
  • Collaborating and providing feedback on art and animation
  • All writing and story elements

Developed in 2015/2016, the aim of DIMB was to make a small game with a limited scope, within a relatively short time frame. Targeted towards the HTML5 casual game space, player input was limited to a single mouse click (or finger tap). This presented the challenge of trying to create a series of levels that would gradually escalate in difficulty, whilst continuing to only allow the player to move, and nothing else.

Although development would end up taking much longer than I had originally hoped, it was still an enjoyable challenge. And getting the chance to collaborate with Chris on the art and animation side was a great experience.

Development

Below are a number of images showing the transition made from rough pen and paper sketches of level layouts, to first prototypes, to getting final art in.
